What are triploid seeds?
Triploid seeds are those that contain three complete sets of chromosomes instead of the usual two (diploid) found in normal plants. This phenomenon typically occurs through specific crosses between diploid and tetraploid plants. The resulting plants often have special characteristics:
Increased productivity: Triploid plants often exhibit hybrid vigor, which can result in faster growth, larger plant size, and higher yields compared to traditional diploid plants.
Greater resistance: These plants may be more resistant to diseases, pests, and adverse environmental conditions, reducing the need for chemical treatments and making cultivation easier in various environments.
Higher cannabinoid content: Triploid plants contain higher levels of compounds such as THC or CBD, increasing their medicinal and recreational value.
Seedless flowers: Triploid plants do not produce seeds in their flowers. This is a highly desirable trait for obtaining high-quality flowers intended for consumption, especially in areas with hemp plantations or other varieties that may contaminate the crops.
Genetic stability: They do not contribute to genetic cross-contamination with other varieties, which is useful for maintaining pure lines or specific traits in commercial crops.
